Cricket Club
East Dean & Friston Cricket Club is a friendly, sociable and inclusive cricket club, aiming to be the most welcoming village cricket club in East Sussex. We love to welcome new members for our adult and youth teams.
We run two competitive Saturday teams who compete in their leagues and are looking for promotion.
- 1st XI – Div 4 East
- 2nd XI - Div11 East (South)
Sunday XI – our Sunday team enjoys a highly inclusive season of village cricket against other invited sides where the winner is always cricket.
Facilities and activities
We have a pavilion with changing rooms and showers and a bar whilst our wicket, which was re-built in 2019, benefits from a rainwater recycling and irrigation system and professional groundsman, supported by a volunteer rolling team. As a result, players enjoy a constantly improving and more consistent bounce, and we aim to enhance that further next season!
At the beginning of the season we offer free indoor cricket nets to help players dust off the winter cobwebs, and then free weekly nets are held at the ground mid week.
The Club aims to be at the centre of village life with many players living locally, our sponsors include locally owned firms and we are actively involved in village events like East Dean Ghost Walks, the Neil Gamble Memorial Day and the village fete where last year our fete stall brought raised £200 by inviting villagers to smash over 150 kg of old and broken crockery.
Our active Youth section introduced 48 children to cricket through our All Stars and Dynamos programs in the summer and we offer two youth cricket camps in the spring and summer holidays for 5-12 year olds.
For the second consecutive year, we won a Cricket Collective "Innovation' award for our innovative work on our new bar! This follows winning the same award for our rainwater recycling and irrigation project in 2023.
Our shirt sponsors include our favourite estate agent Brook Gamble and locally owned Dicker Precision who manufacture high quality engineered components for global clients.
Our long term goals include:
- Providing enjoyable cricket for All including Youth & Women’s sides
- Redeveloping the pavilion and playing facilities into a multi-sports and social club for the community
- Building our role at the centre of the East Dean & Friston community
- Ensuring strong and sustainable Governance and Finance
Membership
Full Senior Membership subscription (22 and over on 1st April 2025) - £100 payable in 4 monthly instalments by DD.
Full Junior Annual Membership subscription (21 and under on 1st April 2025) £10 - to be paid in full by 1st May / the first game.
Sunday Only Annual Membership subscription: Senior - £50, Junior - £10
Non-Playing Member - £20
Non playing partner of a paid up member - £10
Match fees - £10/£5 for Seniors / Juniors
